The Objective
A unique concept was created for the Japanese Brazilian restaurant’s festive brunch aimed at conjuring the joy that exists in hidden corners of Rio’s favelas. The concept took inspiration from the physical theatre performance group Stomp and the powerful musical theatre by Isango Ensemble, A Man with Good Hope. Professional percussionist and Uma Nota’s floor staff clanked, banged and shook disused barrels, tin cans and plastic water filled with dried beans. Attendants participated in a workshop run by the percussionists, understanding how to structure seemingly chaotic sounds to create collective harmony. Adding to the excitement, the specially installed ‘Caipirinha Shack’ invited guests to create their own cocktails during the occasion. The atmosphere transformed through the afternoon of festivities, concluding with a combination of a DJ set and participatory performances.
