The Inspiration
Inspired by the recent rise in astrology and fortune-telling amongst a new generation, Surprise Surprise wanted to celebrate the mystical world of gypsies and wanderers who look to the stars in troubled times.
The Creation
The third edition of Surprise Surprise resulted in a spirited turnout of over 450 guests, impressively dressed as vagabonds and mystical goddesses. Pier 1929, an event space located on the third floor of the Wan Chai Star Ferry Pier, was transformed into four themed areas. The Purple Lounge, a seating area with cocktail service, was atmospheric and hazy. Flying Goddesses performed in space and a Taro Reader was stationed. The Voodoo Bar served Japanese sandos and was filled with 200 fake candles and a disturbing display of 150 children’s dolls. The Whispers’ Lounge & Corridor had a hidden door to a VIP room where special guests experienced an exclusive DJ set. The main space and dancefloor, Moongate, featured two gigantic inflatable moons with over 100 dreamcatchers floating around the stars. Focused around the DJ booth, guests came together in joy. The lineup featured; A-Society Director & DJ from, Nadet; Cassio’s Music Director, Alex Nude; Klaws Wrecks Co-Founder, Mr.Ho; and Surprise Surpise residents. Three main performances created intonations between the musical acts, they featured a leading dancer from the Hong Kong ballet, a cyr wheel performer, a crystal ball performer and a fire performer that intertwined with three contemporary dancers.
