The Inspiration

In line with the glitzy and explosive atmosphere of New Year, inspiration was found in retro-futuristic movies from the 1990s.

The Creation

The experience manifested itself as a space cruise for future intergalactic voyagers. The Pier 1929 was transformed for the journey, with its interior shimmering from head to toe. Guests were welcomed by The Galactic Gate, a glitter wall with a neon sign where they could capture their attire. The main space, The Stairway to Heaven, had tables surrounding a central dancefloor. Two giant disco balls were suspended in mid-air, with neon rings for a planetary effect. Pink sequined streamers draped the four pillars of the large venue, providing a retro-disco aura. Guests rocked up in consumes that were fit for the stars, embodying the theme with sequence, space suits and shining body paint. The Planet Sushi Counter served lobster rolls, sushi and other Japanese delicacies to fuel the odyssey. Luminous accessories were also available to gear guests up for space exploration.

Hong Kong’s disco royalty steered the spaceship through nostalgic hits with fresh house beats. The lineup featured; Jason Swamy, Robot Heart Creative Director & Wonderfruit Festival co-founder; Andrew Bull, founder of the infamous Canton Disco club in the 80s Hong Kong; Dj Rork, music director of Petticoat Lane; Rie Kiriiaka, Surprise Surpirse resident and Fergus Heatcothe, founder of South Canton Soul Train. Space Kewls provided further entertainment through an acrobatic pole dance in costumes inspired by Tim Burton’s Mars Attack. Later in the night, they took to roller-skates and created a dance circle in the middle of the audience.
